Bheemeshwari Adventure & Nature Camp

Meandering through the woody landscape amidst the forests of Karnataka is the Cauvery, the most majestic and sacred river of South India. The river offers opportunity to both adventure and nature lovers. Nestled along this beautiful river is the Bheemeshwari Fishing & Nature Camp, world renowned as home to the great “Mahseer” the finest and one of the largest fresh water sport fish known to man. Tucked away from the milling crowds, yet close enough for you to reach. This camp offers a slice of nature that is charming and picturesque.

bird
Haven to over 200 species of birds, some of the commonly sighted ones are they grey headed fish eagle, pied crested cuckoo, darter etc., just name few. Among the mammals that are spotted in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary are the sambar, spotted deer, jackals, the highly endangered grizzled giant squirrel, the leopard and elephants, However, the mighty Mahseer has always been a major attraction of the waters of River Cauvery here. River Based Activities: Cauvery beckons as soon as you check in. Dip your feet in the pristine waters and you can actually feel the travails of city life fading away. Accompanied by our guides, even the novices amongst you can try a hand at joy fishing. Ride down the Cauvery in a Coracle, while the serenity of nature and a breathtaking sunset across the river with bird dotting the twilight sky are memories that you will endure forever.

Guests can also enjoy river rafting on Cauvery during the monsoon season (mid-June to September)

Land Based Activities: The camp offers trekking around the surroundings of Basavana Betta. The 6 hour trek will give you a panoramic view of the Cauvery flowing through the valley below. Treks of a shorter duration are also possible, early in the mornings. You can also explore the ancient Shiva temple, a stone’s throw away from the Bheemeshwari amp, which though in ruins, is still revered by the local tribal’s.

The Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary with its craggy rocks and hilly terrain is an ideal place to conduct treks and team-building exercises for corporate groups. Camping under the star-spangled skies is also an option that awaits you here. Chat in the warmth of the campfire and relax on the sandy riverbank till the barbecue gets done.

monsoon During the monsoon months of June, July and August the river is full and the forest beautiful and lush. At other times of the year water recedes to reveal wide sand banks where you could lay back and rejuvenate yourself in the evenings. Between September and February, the weather is cool and pleasant and is the best time to visit the place. This is also the ideal time for bird watchers to treat themselves as river terns, fishing eagles, king fishers, and plenty of other species flock here. Summers (March-June) are generally very warm, especially in the afternoons.

accommodation
In keeping with Jungle Lodges eco tourism philosophy, the Camp, overlooking the River Cauvery consists of just eight ethnic log-huts on suits, blending beautifully with the jungle behind. On the riverbank are also ten well-furnished tented cottages (twin-bedded with attached bathrooms) for those who prefer a more closer-to-nature experience.

Facilities
The Ghol-ghar (open-to-sides, circular gazebo) is the exclusive dining area for our guests. The campus also has a lot of open area with a tumbling net and machan for kids and adults to engage in recreation. For those who prefer a more quite time alone, there are hammocks fixed outside each tent and hut, where one could read a book to while away time or even fall asleep.

Indulge yourself in a sumptuous buffet of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine in an open-to-sides dining area – the Gol Ghar. Lunch after you check-in, tea in the evening, snacks around a campfire, dinner in the Gol Ghar, bed-tea at dawn and a breakfast to keep you smiling on. You can be assured of delectable food. After all, isn’t food the best part of any holiday!
